We are seeking a Legal/Tax Assistant located in Jamaica, Trinidad, Curaçao or Puerto Rico. The role involves supporting Legal and Tax Counsel in preparing and reviewing legal documents across various company lifecycle stages, handling accounting matters, and overseeing statutory legal and tax filings. Additionally, the position includes coordination with global stakeholders, ensuring compliance with local, international, and industry-specific legal, banking, and tax requirements, as well as maintaining organized documentation for Inova Solutions entities.

Skills and qualifications

  • Master’s degree in law, preferably in tax law
  • Strong written and verbal skills in English, Dutch and Spanish and ability to work with documents in those languages
  • 3 – 5 years of proven overall work experience in similar position with international companies and or in the Financial Trust Sector
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of tax laws, knowledge (and/or enthusiastic willingness to learn) of the Caribbean territory and Puerto Rico (tax) laws and regulations
  • Self-Management and Time- Management skills 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong leadership, analytical, problem solving and communication skills
  • Sense of urgency, setting priorities and working under (huge) stress 
  • Immune to stress and solution-minded, precise attention to detail

Main functions and responsibilities

  • Assisting the Legal and Tax Counsel on preparing and or reviewing legal documents for all stages of company lifecycle and processes 
  • Assisting with accounting matters 
  • Assisting the Legal and Tax Counsel on performing and or monitoring statutory legal and tax (monthly) filings with local authorities 
  • Coordinating with customers, business partners and colleagues worldwide to gather information and or documentation required to carry out assignments 
  • Ensuring that the Inova Solutions entities meet the local, international and industry specific legal, banking and tax requirements
  • Maintaining Inova Solutions entities’ data and ensuring proper legal, tax, accounting and banking reportings 
  • Maintaining electronic and hard copy files of documents
